Bombay High Court Questions ECI Over Voter Deletions in Goa
· India · Hindustan Times, Times of India, Indian Express
The Bombay High Court on Wednesday questioned the Election Commission of India over software glitches that resulted in the deletion of seven family members from electoral rolls in Goa. Hearing a petition filed by Paresh Salgaoncar, the bench of justices Amit Jamsandekar and Valmiki Menezes asked how software could override statutory law without providing affected parties a hearing. The petitioners' names were removed during the special intensive revision for allegedly having shifted residences, despite valid submissions of Form 8. The Commission maintained that it followed established procedures based on inputs received from booth-level officers. The high court posted the matter for further hearing on October 7.
Why it matters
