BPCL Says No Logistical Hurdle in Reintroducing E10 Petrol

Bharat Petroleum CMD Sanjay Khanna said oil marketing companies would face no logistical challenges if the government re-introduced E10 petrol alongside the existing E20 variant. The debate over bringing back a lower 10% ethanol blend gained traction after Chief Economic Advisor V. Anantha Nageswaran suggested exploring the option for older vehicles. Bharat Petroleum later issued a clarification that there was no proposal to replace E20 with E10, calling reports of such deliberations incorrect. Separately, Director (Finance) Vetsa Ramkrishna Gupta said BPCL had secured crude oil requirements until September and was halfway through securing October supplies. Khanna warned that a potential US ban on Russian crude, combined with tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, could create a major supply challenge for Indian OMCs, with Russian oil currently making up 35–40% of their basket.
