BrahMos Missile Sees Growing Global Demand After Operation Sindoor

India's supersonic cruise missile the BrahMos has emerged as a major defence export success following its performance during Operation Sindoor in May 2025, when it successfully struck well-defended targets in Pakistan. Flying at nearly three times the speed of sound with a low radar cross-section, the missile has proven difficult to intercept. The Philippines became the first foreign customer in 2022 with a USD 375 million contract for the shore-based anti-ship variant, driven by maritime disputes in the South China Sea. Vietnam has also finalized an agreement, while Indonesia signed a deal to acquire the BrahMos and Astra missiles during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jakarta. Additionally, the UAE is in early-stage talks to procure the missile as Abu Dhabi seeks to counter regional vulnerabilities.
