Brent Crude Holds Steady as US Weighs Shadow Fleet Easing
· Business · LiveMint, Financial Times
Brent crude settled down 14 cents at $105.92 a barrel on Thursday as markets evaluated potential US steps to relax restrictions on the global shadow fleet of oil tankers. US West Texas Intermediate crude rose $2.88 to $97.97 a barrel following a larger than expected domestic crude stock draw. The discussions follow the temporary lifting of sanctions on Russian diesel fuel by President Donald Trump to address global price surges. Meanwhile, geopolitical tensions persisted as container ships and dry bulk carriers sank near the Strait of Hormuz following projectile strikes. Houthis also fired missiles at the presidential palace complex in Aden, killing two guards.
Why it matters
Shifts in US sanctions policy on oil tankers combined with Middle East shipping attacks directly influence international crude prices and global energy costs.
