British sport ticket fees surge: Ashes minimum hits £115, Wimbledon finals £255, F1 £289

· Sports · BBC Sport

Ticket prices for elite UK sport have risen sharply in the 2020s, with a minimum £115 fee to watch a day of the Ashes in Birmingham (up from £65 in 2023) and a minimum £255 for a standard seat at the Wimbledon singles finals. At Silverstone, general admission starts at £289 and the cheapest allocated seat costs at least £609, up from £276 five years ago. Wimbledon's most expensive standard seat for both finals reaches £400, over double the 2017 cost, though it remains the cheapest of the four Grand Slams. The Open at Royal Birkdale this year cost fans £150, compared to £95 at St Andrews in 2022, while FA Cup final tickets ranged from £50 to £285 in 2026.

Why it matters

British sports fans face substantially higher costs to attend live events, with the Ashes and Wimbledon becoming increasingly unaffordable for average supporters and armchair viewers priced out by rising television subscription expenses.
