BRS Legislators Complain to NCW and NHRC Over Police Conduct
· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times
A delegation of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislators visited New Delhi on Friday to file complaints with the National Commission for Women (NCW) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The group alleged that Telangana Police engaged in indecent behaviour and physical aggression toward women legislators near the Assembly premises in Hyderabad on September 7. The BRS leaders claimed that police attempted to stifle their protest and insulted them by pulling their sarees. They requested that the commissions secure the CCTV footage of the incident, noting that no FIR has been registered despite their complaint. The NCW has assured the delegation that it will seek a report from the state's Director General of Police.
Why it matters
The complaint marks a significant escalation in the political confrontation between the BRS and the state government, involving allegations of police misconduct against elected representatives.
