· India · Indian Express, India Today
Himaja Lingampally, a fourth-year student at Sri Vishnu Engineering College for Women, has won the 2026 James Dyson Award in India for her voice-enabled Braille printer, Rudhra. The device allows users to convert spoken words into Braille patterns, eliminating the need for traditional manual punching and memorizing complex dot combinations. The project evolved after a student at a local school for the visually impaired asked why they could not use voice input instead of buttons. Lingampally received a cash prize of ₹6 lakh and will now represent India in the international round of the competition.
Why it matters
