Ratko Mladic, the former Bosnian Serb military chief known as the Butcher of Bosnia, has died at the age of 82 according to Serbian state broadcaster RTS. Mladic was serving a life sentence in The Hague after being convicted of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity for his role in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre and the wider Bosnian war. He had suffered several strokes in recent months, and his family's appeals for release due to failing health were previously rejected by the tribunal. The 1992-1995 conflict resulted in approximately 100,000 deaths and displaced 2.2 million people.
