Cabinet Approves Four Railway Multitracking Projects Worth Rs. 9,450 Crore

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, approved four Ministry of Railways multi-tracking projects costing approximately Rs. 9,450 crore. The projects cover eight districts across the states of West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, increasing the Indian Railways network by about 410 kilometres. The approved works include the 173km Kharagpur-Bhadrak fourth line, 75km Bhadrak-Haridaspur fourth line, 90km Gummidipundi-Gudur third and fourth line, and the 72km Cuttack-Paradeep third and fourth line. These infrastructure upgrades are planned under the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan to enhance freight and passenger mobility and connect nearly 6,448 villages.
Why it matters
The projects improve logistics efficiency and freight transportation for commodities like coal and iron ore while enhancing connectivity for approximately 60 lakh residents across four states.
