Cabinet Raises Wheat MSP by ₹25 to ₹2,610 per Quintal for 2027-28

The Union Cabinet has approved a ₹25 per quintal increase in the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat, bringing it to ₹2,610 per quintal for the 2027-28 rabi marketing year. The decision was announced by I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw following a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The Agriculture Ministry's proposal also raised support prices for other rabi crops, including gram, masur, rapeseed, mustard seed, and safflower. The total payout to farmers is estimated at ₹90,962 crore for 324 lakh tonnes during the 2027-28 marketing year. The recommendations were formulated by the Commission for Agricultural Costs & Prices, factoring in production costs and domestic and global factors.
