Cafe Mondegar and Five Other Food Establishments Lose Licences After FDA Crackdown

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has suspended the licences of six food establishments across Mumbai and Pune following inspections that revealed severe hygiene and food safety violations. Café Mondegar in Colaba, established in 1932, faced suspension after an inspection on September 12 uncovered improper hot and cold food storage temperatures, damp flooring, and inadequate drainage. Other Mumbai outlets penalised include Maharashtra Biryani Center in Kandivali East, Tribhuvan Dairy Farm in Ghatkopar West, and Mahavir Cashew & Foods Pvt Ltd. In the Pune division, the FDA suspended the licences of Hotel Malhar Wada in Kolhapur and Puramchand and Sons in Market Yard, where officials also detected expired food products. The licence suspensions form part of an ongoing festive season enforcement drive led by FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. The agency stated that strict action will continue against businesses violating safety regulations or storing expired and adulterated food.
