Canada Announces C$350 Million Air Defence Aid for Ukraine
· World · Hindustan Times, The Guardian
Canada has agreed to a C$350 million aid package for Ukraine to acquire air defense interceptors, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Thursday. The package comes as Ukraine faces critical shortages of U.S.-made Patriot interceptors needed to counter Russia’s intensified ballistic missile attacks. The weapons will be provided through a U.S. program allowing third-party nations to quickly supply Ukraine with military equipment. Carney also pledged to increase drone production, with a third of the output earmarked for Ukraine. Additionally, Canada will provide C$435 million in loan guarantees to support Ukraine’s energy security.
Why it matters
This aid strengthens Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid escalating Russian military operations, helping protect civilian populations and critical infrastructure.
