CAPFs to Source Agniveer Recruitment List from Armed Forces

Central Armed Police Forces will reserve half of their constable vacancies for former Agniveers and will rely on lists supplied by the Army, Navy and Air Force for eligibility. The armed forces, which operate without caste-based quotas, will not allow ex‑Agniveers to apply directly; instead, caste reservations for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes will remain in force for CAPF recruitment. About 25,000 Agniveers are expected to retire from the Army by December 2026, and CAPF notifications from CRPF, SSB, Assam Rifles and BSF have already fixed a 50 % quota. For the CRPF, which recruits roughly 7,000 constables annually, 3,500 posts will be set aside for ex‑Agniveers, with any unfilled positions carried forward to the next phase of open recruitment. The first phase of recruitment will happen soon after the list is released, and any vacancies left open will be added to the remaining 50 % of posts in the second phase.
Why it matters
Former Agniveers will gain a defined pathway into CAPFs, but must still meet caste reservations that can limit their chances.
