Cardiff to Host 2029 UEFA Women's Champions League Final

· Sports · BBC Sport, Sportstar

Cardiff's Principality Stadium will host the 2029 UEFA women's Champions League final, marking a major return of European football's showpiece event to Wales. The 73,931-seater venue previously hosted the men's final between Real Madrid and Juventus in 2017. Football Association of Wales chief executive Noel Mooney stated the ambition is for the match to act as a catalyst for transforming women's and girls' football across the country. To comply with UEFA sponsorship rules, the city centre venue will be temporarily renamed the National Stadium of Wales for the event. UEFA also confirmed host venues for upcoming finals, including Munich for the 2028 men's final and Barcelona for the 2029 men's showcase.

Why it matters

Hosting the 2029 final provides a major economic and cultural boost for Welsh football, aiming to accelerate grassroots participation and infrastructure development for women and girls in the sport.
