Carrick to remain Manchester United manager for Chelsea trip
· Sports · BBC Sport, Sportstar, Al Jazeera
Michael Carrick will remain as Manchester United manager for the weekend's trip to Chelsea, sources confirmed to BBC Sport. The 45-year-old former Middlesbrough manager was given the opportunity to turn things around after a dismal start, with United eighth in the table, one place above the relegation zone. Carrick oversaw training on Tuesday as United prepare to end an eight-match winless run in all competitions. His future had been under threat following Sunday's 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth.
Why it matters
Carrick's temporary reprieve means United will continue with him in charge for the crucial Chelsea fixture, keeping Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann as potential longer-term replacements on the club's radar.
