CAS promises Africa Cup of Nations winner decision within days
· Sports · Sportstar, The Straits Times
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has concluded a hearing regarding Senegal’s appeal to reclaim the Africa Cup of Nations title. Senegal was stripped of the championship after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board ruled the team forfeited the final against Morocco by walking off the pitch in protest. Although Senegal won the match 1-0 in Rabat, the CAF later awarded a 3-0 victory to Morocco. CAS Director General Matthieu Reeb confirmed that a final, reasoned award will be issued within a few days. The panel, led by Gerald Simon, is currently reviewing the procedural and legal aspects of the case.
Why it matters
The final ruling will officially determine the winner of the Africa Cup of Nations and resolve a months-long administrative dispute between Senegal and the Confederation of African Football.
