The Central Bureau of Investigation has secured the deportation of fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi’s associate Sandeep Mistry from the United Arab Emirates to India in connection with the Punjab National Bank fraud case. Mistry was brought to Mumbai at 11:55 pm on Monday and subsequently produced before a competent court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Investigators accuse Mistry of orchestrating fictitious international trade transactions, siphoning off funds from dummy companies, and using clandestine communication platforms to conceal evidence. The agency also alleges that he coerced dummy directors of foreign companies by threatening them with arrest and seizing their electronic devices. A Red Notice was published against Mistry through Interpol channels in July 2026, leading to his geo-location and arrest by United Arab Emirates authorities.
