CBI Court Acquits Acharya Balkrishna In 15-Year-Old Forgery Case

A Dehradun court has acquitted Acharya Balkrishna, the general secretary of Patanjali Yogpeeth, in a long-standing case involving the procurement of an Indian passport through forged documents. The Central Bureau of Investigation had initiated the probe in 2011 following allegations that Balkrishna was a Nepali national who used fraudulent educational certificates to obtain his citizenship documents. The court also acquitted Naresh Chandra Dwivedi, who was accused of providing the alleged forged documents to the Patanjali aide. Following the verdict, Balkrishna stated he maintained faith in the judicial process throughout the 15-year trial. He described the legal proceedings as an exhausting experience that caused him significant personal and professional disrepute.
