CBI Facilitates Extradition of Sexual Assault Fugitive From UAE
· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times
The Central Bureau of Investigation, alongside the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs, has secured the extradition of an Interpol Red Notice subject from the United Arab Emirates. The accused, Sajeer Palli Mooppam, was brought back to New Delhi by a Delhi Police escort team on Wednesday. He is wanted in a sexual assault case where he and an accomplice allegedly administered an intoxicant to a 20-year-old woman and transported her to a hotel using third-party identity credentials. A chargesheet was filed against him before the Delhi Police obtained the Red Notice through the CBI. He was subsequently tracked to the UAE, where legal proceedings were initiated for his return.
Why it matters
The extradition ensures that individuals accused of serious crimes abroad cannot evade Indian jurisdiction, bringing the suspect to trial in Delhi.
