CBI includes WhatsApp chats in dossier on Punjab CM Mann's OSD Rajbir Singh Ghuman
· India · Times of India, Indian Express
CBI has included alleged 'cash-for-transfers' WhatsApp chats in its dossier on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's OSD Rajbir Singh Ghuman as part of an investigation into corruption involving transfers and postings of senior Punjab government officials. The chats purportedly mention monetary transactions and details of postings for officials including multiple DSPs. Ghuman is under scanner for alleged corruption through intermediaries, including co-accused Nitin Gohal, Jitin, Romi Raja Mahajan, Bir Devinder and RS Nagra. CBI's FIR mentions ED's post-seizure questioning of Gohal in May, who allegedly coordinated the bribery network by forwarding drafts of orders to private individuals. The probe also examines interference in real estate projects, cooperative housing and GMADA irregularities, suggesting multiple private individuals influenced govt functioning.
Why it matters
Punjab government officials, particularly IAS and IPS officers, face potential disruption in transfers and postings due to alleged bribery networks. The investigation could lead to policy changes in tender conditions, revenue and land-related matters if corruption is proven.
