CBSE Revises Class 9 Curriculum Scheme for Sixth Time in Seven Months

· India · Hindustan Times, NDTV

The Central Board of Secondary Education has dropped three planned curricular components for Class 9 students in the 2026-27 academic year, marking the sixth revision to its scheme of studies in seven months. In a circular signed by academics director Dr Praggya M Singh, the board announced that the Individuals in Society course and National Council of Educational Research and Training modules on computational thinking and artificial intelligence will not be part of Class 9 this year. Additionally, Environmental Education will be excluded when the same batch moves to Class 10 in 2027-28. The changes do not affect current Class 10 students. The board stated the exclusions align the curriculum introduction with the implementation schedule.

Why it matters

Frequent syllabus revisions create academic uncertainty for students and teachers navigating the transition to the National Education Policy 2020 framework.
