Central Government Employees to Receive September Salaries Early Amid Bank Strike

· India · Hindustan Times, Times of India

The Union finance ministry has directed that salaries, wages, and pensions for Central government employees be disbursed on September 25, 2026. This decision aims to ensure timely payments ahead of a proposed three-day nationwide bank strike scheduled from September 28 to 30. The United Forum of Bank Unions, representing approximately 90% of the banking workforce, called the strike to demand a five-day work week. The ministry has also instructed banks, including Regional Rural Banks, to remain open on Sunday to facilitate transactions. Any necessary adjustments to these advance payments will be settled in the October 2026 salary cycle.

Why it matters

The move prevents potential financial disruption for millions of Central government employees and pensioners who might otherwise face delays due to the nationwide banking shutdown.
