Centre Approves Rs 2,077 Crore Highway Project For Siliguri Corridor

The Centre has approved a Rs 2,077.18-crore infrastructure project to four-lane a 31.02-kilometre section of NH-327 connecting Bagdogra in West Bengal with Galgalia in Bihar. Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari announced the approval, stating that the upgrade includes three major bridges, a road over bridge, and five elephant underpasses. The project is designed to strengthen connectivity across the strategically vital Siliguri Corridor, which serves as the sole land link connecting mainland India to the Northeast. Officials expect the upgraded highway to ease regional traffic congestion in Bagdogra, Naxalbari, Kharibari, and Panitanki while improving access to Bagdogra Airport. Additionally, the expanded corridor will facilitate faster transport of agricultural, horticultural, and tea produce from North Bengal to larger markets.
