Centre Directs States to Ensure Prominent Display of Healthcare Service Rates
· India · Hindustan Times, Zee News, The Hindu
The Union Health Ministry has instructed all states and Union Territories to ensure that healthcare service rates at clinical establishments are displayed prominently to improve transparency and patient accountability. Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava issued a letter directing chief secretaries to review regulatory compliance under the Clinical Establishments Act, 2010, and the Clinical Establishments Rules, 2012. The guidelines require establishments to exhibit charges for services and facilities in both English and local languages at conspicuous locations. The directive also emphasises transparency in pricing for international patients travelling to India for medical treatment, encouraging the clear display of foreign patient package rates. State governments are responsible for local enforcement since health is a state subject.
Why it matters
This mandate helps patients anticipate treatment costs, reduces billing disputes, and increases pricing transparency across private and public clinical establishments in India.
