Centre Tells Supreme Court NEET Exam System Is Foolproof

On 19 August 2026, the Indian government testified that the NEET‑UG exam system is "foolproof" even though some human intervention exists. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta detailed the question‑paper creation: a set of moderators first compiles a bank of 500 questions, then other moderators pick 100 questions each to draft four distinct papers. The Director General of NTA then chooses two of those papers, places the chosen paper in a sealed box, and sends it to two printers under CCTV and CISF security. The sealed box is opened only after the printing press owner contacts DG NTA and receives a digital code, and the whole process is video‑recorded. The government admitted that while human oversight remains, the procedure’s design makes it difficult to tamper with the exam.
