Centre Tells Supreme Court Policy Blocks Disability Pension for Boarded-Out Cadets

The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that policy constraints prevent the granting of disability pensions to military cadets boarded out on medical grounds. However, the government stated that such cadets will receive professional skill training to assist with their resettlement in civilian life. The Ministry of Defence filed the response following suo motu cognizance by a bench of justices BV Nagarathna and R Mahadevan. A draft action plan prepared by the Directorate General of Resettlement proposes eight to 10-week orientation modules aligned with individual educational qualifications. The Supreme Court has scheduled the next hearing for October 7 to review the matter further.
