Centre to Sell Subsidised Onions in Delhi-NCR to Curb Price Rise

The Union government plans to begin selling onions at a subsidised rate of Rs 35 per kg across Delhi-NCR later this week. Mobile vans will be deployed to ensure availability, following a strategy of retail intervention used in previous years. To address supply constraints, the government has launched 'Kanda Express' trains to transport onions from Nashik to major consumption hubs including Delhi, Chennai, Kochi, Madurai, and Guwahati. Officials stated that wholesale prices will be prioritised for cooling first, which is expected to lower retail costs. Retail prices in Delhi have reached Rs 55 per kg, compared to Rs 35 per kg during the same period last year.
