Chandigarh Consumer Commission Fines Travel Firm Rs 1.10 Lakh Over Poor Hotel Stays
· India · Indian Express, Times of India
The Chandigarh District Consumer Commission directed a travel and hotel booking company to pay Rs 1.10 lakh to a 47-year-old customer on September 1, 2026. The complainant had purchased a five-year holiday membership for Rs 1.10 lakh, which promised 36 nights of accommodation in four- and five-star properties across India for four adults. Commission President Pawanjit Singh and member BM Sharma ruled that the company's failure to provide the contracted luxury stays and meals constituted a deficiency in service and unfair trade practice. When the customer sought bookings in Manali and Kasauli, the firm offered lower-category accommodations and demanded additional charges. The travel company failed to appear before the commission despite receiving notice, prompting an ex-parte ruling.
Why it matters
Holiday package consumers often face deceptive service contracts, making accountability through consumer courts a crucial recourse for financial compensation.
