Channel 4 Cancels Married at First Sight UK Following Rape Allegations
· Entertainment · BBC News, Hollywood Reporter
Channel 4 has cancelled the reality show Married at First Sight UK after a BBC Panorama investigation revealed rape allegations involving cast members. The broadcaster's chief executive, Priya Dogra, confirmed the decision and apologised to the women involved for their distress. An independent review found that while welfare protocols were generally compliant with Ofcom codes, the show's editorial proposition had run its course after 10 years. The allegations included claims of rape from two women and a non-consensual sex act from a third, all of which the men involved have denied. Channel 4 plans to reinvest the show's budget into new programming.
Why it matters
The cancellation marks a significant shift in how UK broadcasters handle duty-of-care protocols for reality television participants following serious criminal allegations.
