Cheteshwar Pujara Backs Sanju Samson Ahead of 2nd T20I
· Sports · Times of India, BCCI
Former India batter Cheteshwar Pujara has urged the team management to give Sanju Samson unconditional backing ahead of the second T20I against the West Indies in Ranchi. Samson recorded 11 runs in the series opener in Lucknow, adding to a lean patch that included low scores during the Asian Games. India currently leads the five-match series 1-0 following an eight-wicket victory. Pujara emphasized that quality players experience temporary slumps in the T20 format and argued that Samson's past contributions, including World Cup performances, earn him a secure spot in the playing XI. He also noted that young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is waiting in the wings for an opportunity.
Why it matters
The endorsement highlights the ongoing debate over team selection and player backing as India builds its squad for upcoming international T20 assignments.
