Chief Minister Satheesan Flags First EXIM Container at Vizhinjam

The Kerala Chief Minister, V.D. Satheesan, flagged off the first EXIM container in a ceremony at Vizhinjam Port on 18 August 2026, marking the start of full‑scale export‑import cargo operations. The event was accompanied by the launch of the logo for Mission Samudra, the state’s flagship port‑led industrial and logistics initiative. Since beginning trial runs in July 2024 and commercial operations in December 2024, Vizhinjam has become a major node with more than 110 direct connections to ports in 50 countries and handled 2.24 million TEUs from 1,057 vessels by 31 July 2026. With a natural depth of 20–24 m and automated systems, the port can accommodate the world’s largest container ships, offering exporters a direct sea link that cuts transit time and costs. The launch signals Kerala’s aim to transform Vizhinjam from a transshipment hub into a global trade gateway and boost manufacturing and export‑oriented businesses in the state.
