Children’s Doctors Link Vaping To Respiratory Issues, Allergies And Mental Health Concerns

· World · The Independent, Sky News

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health has published a comprehensive review linking youth vaping to multiple health risks, including respiratory problems, allergies, and mental health conditions. Researchers examined 81 published studies in the Archives of Disease in Childhood, finding consistent evidence that young people who vape experience higher rates of coughing, wheezing, anxiety, depression, and dental issues. The review also identified perinatal harms in babies whose mothers vaped during pregnancy, such as abnormal reflexes and low weight gain. Additionally, longitudinal findings showed strong evidence that childhood vaping increases the likelihood of later cigarette smoking. Experts urged immediate action to reduce the accessibility and attractiveness of e-cigarettes to children.

Why it matters

The medical findings provide clinical evidence on the health risks of youth vaping, impacting public health policy and regulatory approaches toward e-cigarettes.
