· Business · Economic Times, Wall Street Journal, Indian Express

Chinese tech giant Baidu posted a 4% year-on-year drop in quarterly revenue to 31.3 billion yuan ($4.6 billion) for the second quarter, marking its fifth consecutive quarter of declining revenue. Operating income for the three-month period ending June 30 fell to 3 billion yuan from 3.3 billion yuan a year earlier. Chief Executive Robin Li cited a persistent slump in Chinese consumer spending that pressured the company's online marketing business, which generated 13.1 billion yuan. However, revenue from Baidu's AI applications and supporting infrastructure rose 25% year-on-year to 12.5 billion yuan, reinforcing the firm's strategic transition to an artificial intelligence-first enterprise.

Why it matters
