Experts are raising concerns over China's 60,000-MW Medog Dam project in Tibet following a deadly flood triggered by an avalanche on the Nepal-Tibet border. The disaster, which resulted in over 100 deaths and hundreds of missing persons, occurred in a seismically active region near Arunachal Pradesh. Geological studies indicate the dam sits atop an active fault line, leading critics to label the project a potential ecological and geopolitical risk. Nepal's Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal noted that an earthquake likely triggered the floods in the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems. The dam is currently scheduled for completion by 2033.

The project's location on the Yarlung Tsangpo, which flows into India as the Brahmaputra, poses significant ecological and security concerns for downstream regions in India.
