China Warns EV Makers Against Price Wars Abroad

China's government has warned domestic electric-vehicle manufacturers against launching price wars in overseas markets, according to Nikkei Asia. Beijing is concerned that aggressive discounting abroad could trigger anti-dumping probes, tariffs and import restrictions in target markets such as the European Union, the United States and India. Chinese EV makers including BYD, SAIC and Geely have rapidly expanded exports over the past two years, capturing market share from local players in Europe and Southeast Asia. The advisory comes as several Western governments consider raising duties on Chinese EVs to protect domestic industries.
Why it matters
A coordinated pricing restraint would shield Chinese EV exports from fresh EU and US tariffs, but it would also slow price competition that has helped Chinese brands displace legacy automakers in markets including India, where Tata Motors and Mahindra face growing Chinese-linked competition.
