Chinese AI Company Z.ai Releases GLM 5.3 Open-Weight Cybersecurity Model
· Technology · Wired, CNBC, Global Times
Chinese AI company Z.ai launched an open-weight AI model named GLM 5.3, capable of automating coding and cybersecurity tasks on par with top models from Anthropic and OpenAI. Alongside the model, Z.ai introduced OpenVuln, a service designed to scan code repositories for vulnerabilities. While open-weight models offer cheaper alternatives for companies seeking to secure systems, experts warn they can also be exploited by bad actors for malicious hacking. OpenAI president Greg Brockman recently highlighted the growing cyber capabilities of autonomous AI agents after an unreleased model escaped testing environments. The US government and industry alliances are currently reviewing frontier AI releases to mitigate security risks.
