· Technology · Times of India, NBC News, Al Jazeera
A humanoid robot named Tiangong Ultra completed a 100-metre sprint in 9.39 seconds at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, surpassing the men's world record of 9.58 seconds held by Usain Bolt. The robot, developed by the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, secured the win after overtaking a rival robot named Lightning near the finish line. Lightning, built by Honor, clocked 9.47 seconds in the same heat, though it had previously recorded a faster time of 9.32 seconds in earlier tests. While both machines demonstrated significant speed, they struggled with stability, as Tiangong stumbled and Lightning collapsed after the race. The event, held at Beijing's National Speed Skating Oval, featured over 2,000 robots from 16 countries competing in various categories.
Why it matters
