Chinese Robotics Firm Unitree Shares Surge Sixfold on Debut
· Business · The Independent, BBC News, Economic Times
Shares of the Chinese humanoid robot manufacturer Unitree Robotics rose over 600 percent on their first day of trading on the Shanghai Star Market. The company, which produces sensors and both four-legged and humanoid machines, raised 6 billion yuan and achieved a valuation of 40 billion pounds. Unitree gained global prominence after its G1 robots performed at China's Spring Festival Gala earlier this year. While the firm reported a net profit of 29 million pounds last year, it faces potential headwinds following US administration plans to restrict Chinese-made robots on national security grounds.
Why it matters
The successful IPO signals growing investor confidence in China's robotics sector, despite increasing trade friction and security-related export restrictions from the US.
