Chinese startup z.ai has released its new frontier language model, GLM-5.3, via an API for developers to integrate into agents and applications. The model is priced at $1.40 per million input tokens and $4.40 per million output tokens, matching the rates of its predecessor, GLM-5.2. While the company intends to make the model's weights open source, it has not yet provided a specific date or licensing details. Independent benchmarks from Artificial Analysis have scored GLM-5.3 at 60 on its Intelligence Index, tying it with Kimi K3 as the top-performing open-weights model globally. Developers currently using the GLM Coding Plan are restricted to the OpenAI Chat Completions-compatible protocol.
