CISF to Guard NTA Premises After NEET Paper Leak Controversy
· India · The Hindu, Times of India
The National Testing Agency will now be guarded by the CISF to ensure foolproof security in confidential areas on its premises in New Delhi. The security overhaul follows the NEET-UG question paper leak earlier this year, which triggered nationwide student protests and led to the resignation of then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi subsequently formed a high-powered task force led by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani to recommend examination system reforms. According to a CBI chargesheet, the previous leak occurred because subject experts faced no checking or frisking when entering or exiting confidential sections. The NTA has shifted its operations to a 55,000 square-foot office space in the Government of India Press Building on Minto Road.
Why it matters
The deployment of paramilitary security and relocation of offices aim to plug administrative vulnerabilities that led to major medical entrance exam leaks affecting lakhs of students.
