CJP Alleges Procedural Delays In Release Of Detained Leaders

· India · The Hindu, DW

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has alleged that the release of its leaders, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, is being intentionally delayed by authorities in New Delhi. The leaders were sent to five days of judicial custody on October 14 after scaling the gates of Jantar Mantar, which had been denotified as a protest site. Activist Ratna Singh claimed that four bail sureties have been rejected on vague grounds by the Special Executive Magistrate. The CJP maintains that the leaders were merely unfurling the national flag and raising slogans. Police have not provided a response to the allegations of procedural misuse.

Why it matters

The dispute highlights ongoing tensions between protest groups and local authorities regarding access to designated protest sites in the capital.
