CJP Founder Questions Judicial Relief for Murder Convict Amid Party Leaders' Custody
· India · India Today, Al Jazeera
Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke has questioned the Allahabad High Court's decision to suspend the conviction and life sentence of a murder accused who wants to contest elections. Dipke contrasted this relief with the continued judicial custody of CJP co-convenors Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das in New Delhi. The murder accused, Nandlal Rai, was convicted in a 2017 case and sought to contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The High Court observed that a common person's right to livelihood was vital for survival during a pending appeal. Meanwhile, Ranka and Das were remanded in judicial custody for two more days on Monday. The CJP has demanded their immediate release and stated it will challenge the order in higher judicial forums.
