CJP Protests Outside Parliament Street Police Station Demanding Arrest of Swatantra Bhardwaj

· India · Indian Express, Times of India

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) marched from Patel Chowk to the Parliament Street Police Station in Delhi on September 4, 2026, demanding the arrest of right-wing activist Swatantra Bhardwaj. Around 50 supporters staged a sit-in outside the station while CJP spokesperson Saurav Das and co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka negotiated with police. Azad Samaj Party chief Chandra Shekhar Aazad also joined the demand for Bhardwaj's arrest. The protest stems from a podcast in which Bhardwaj purportedly confessed to cracking the skull of a protester's father during a June incident at Jantar Mantar, leaving Ghaziabad resident Sanjay Kumar (38) with a head injury requiring 60 stitches. Bhardwaj claimed in the video that he avoided jail due to intervention by a Delhi-based politician and that a Section 307 (attempt to murder) case should have been registered against him. CJP is also pushing for invocation of the SC/ST Act, citing that the victim's family is Dalit.

Why it matters

CJP is pressing for an attempted murder charge and SC/ST Act invocation in a case involving an alleged assault on a Dalit protester's father at Jantar Mantar, raising questions about political interference in policing and accountability for caste-based violence. The named politician's intervention, if verified, could become a separate flashpoint.
