CJP Withdraws September 5 Delhi March After Centre Acts on FIRs
· India · India Today, Zee News, Indian Express
The Cockroach Janta Party told the Supreme Court that it was withdrawing its planned September 5 protest march in New Delhi. CJP spokesperson Saurav Das made the statement before a bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant after the Centre gave formal assurances to withdraw cases against student protesters. The legal disputes stemmed from an agitation at Jantar Mantar on July 20 and a nationwide mobilization over the NEET paper leak. Chief Justice Kant welcomed the move, stating that reciprocal gestures can resolve disputes. The protest had originally been announced on August 24 to march from India Gate to the New Delhi Police Headquarters.
Why it matters
The resolution averts potential street confrontations in New Delhi while addressing student grievances related to police cases from recent demonstrations.
