Class 12 student raises Rs 8 lakh for five Ambala streetlights through women-only running club
· India · Times of India, NDTV
Kridha Gupta, a Class 12 student from Ambala, founded RunX, a women-only running club with over 200 members, after noticing women avoided outdoor exercise due to safety concerns. As members shared experiences about poorly lit routes, the club shifted focus to improving public infrastructure. Through RunX, Gupta raised close to Rs 8 lakh to install five streetlights along dark paths, in collaboration with Resident Welfare Associations. The initiative gained municipal attention, with proposals for safer spaces entering Ambala's 2026 civic policy agenda.
Why it matters
The project directly improves nighttime safety for women residents in Ambala, enabling greater access to fitness and public spaces. It demonstrates how a student-led community can influence local civic policy and infrastructure funding.
