Coast Guard Urged to Search for Eight Missing Fishermen in Bay of Bengal

Fears mounted for eight fishermen who went missing in the Bay of Bengal after losing contact with their families since August 7. The fishermen had ventured into deep-sea fishing from the Odalarevu boat landing centre in the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district on August 3 in search of Tuna fish. Six of the missing men belong to Odalarevu village, while the remaining two are from Kakinada. District authorities have asked the Indian Coast Guard units in Kakinada and Visakhapatnam to launch a search operation and alerted the State Disaster Management Authority. Officials stated that the boat carried sufficient commodities and 1,000 litres of diesel to last until August 20.
