Cockroach Janta Party pauses protests ahead of Dussehra festival

· India · India Today, Hindustan Times

Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), announced a pause in protests in a Dussehra video message, urging supporters to spend the festival with family. Dipke highlighted the emotional strain on families, noting co-convenors Ashutosh Ranka and Saurabh Das remain in judicial custody after defying the denotification of Jantar Mantar as a protest site. The CJP had been protesting relentlessly since Dipke returned from the US in May, including demands for the Union Education Minister's resignation and a political protest against the Chief Election Commissioner. Dipke's message cited the recent detention of himself and the judicial custody of Ranka and Das as key reasons for the temporary break. The planned Tiranga march was scuttled after Dipke's detention and the co-convenors' arrest. The party faces ongoing family concerns as members have been protesting and getting detained in recent weeks.

Why it matters

The protest pause affects CJP supporters and families who have been enduring detentions and emotional strain, with two key co-convenors still in judicial custody and the group's flagship march cancelled.
