Cockroach Janta Party to Protest Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar in Mumbai

· India · The Hindu, Times of India

Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke announced that the group will hold a protest at Mumbai's Shivaji Park on October 2, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protesters are calling for criminal charges against Mr. Kumar, the freezing of the Special Intensive Revision voter roll, and a transparent appointment process involving civil society. Mr. Dipke alleged that 13 crore deletions have occurred in the voters' list since 2024 and claimed that Electronic Voting Machines can be hacked in favor of the ruling party. Following the Mumbai demonstration, the group plans protests in six other cities, culminating at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi by the end of October. The protest comes in response to voter list revisions that critics argue have disenfranchised eligible electors across the country.

Why it matters

The protests target the administrative integrity of India's election machinery and raise questions about voter roll transparency and electronic voting security.
