Ship crossings via the Strait of Hormuz remained in single digits on Monday, August 17, 2026, despite a slight increase from the weekend. Preliminary shipping data shows six commodity vessels transited the waterway, trailing the 10-day average of 11 ships. No very large crude carriers or liquefied natural gas tankers were recorded passing through the strait during this period. The data excludes vessels that may have transited with their transponders switched off. Meanwhile, at the Bab el-Mandeb chokepoint, 19 commodity vessels were recorded on the same day, also falling below the 10-day moving average of 26.
