Congress Accuses Maharashtra Government of Excluding Opposition Areas from Drought List

Senior Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar accused the Maharashtra government of political discrimination on Tuesday for prioritizing ministers' constituencies in its state drought list. Wadettiwar pointed out that 28 out of 33 state ministers' talukas were included in the initial relief list, while areas represented by Opposition parties were neglected. He cited Brahmapuri taluka in Chandrapur district as a severely affected region that was excluded from the list. The state government recently declared drought in 265 of its 358 talukas amid a severe rainfall deficit, rolling out relief measures including crop loan restructuring and power bill subsidies. The Congress party has warned of street protests if political bias in relief distribution is not corrected.
